Amusement Park and Stopped Counting

the amusement park

The amusement park
emptied by winter’s
recklessness,
lies in wait
for summer…
its gears
greased against
rain’s torrent,
stand in
motionless watch
for season’s change
and the return of childhood.

Stopped Counting

Expectations….
the mirror stands before me,
its accusations
a stark contrast
to the sun
dappling through
a lace clad window.
Who is this
that stares back
into my eyes
like a hostile stranger?
I know you….
know you not
to know
you….
so cocky as a kid,
so beaten as a woman
so strong as a senior.
Depression
causes the roses
of my glasses
to turn blue-
I look away
to look back….
to challenge
once again
the games
my mind
plays.
